NUTRITION GUIDANCE
Forget short-term fad diets!  Studies show they only provide short-term results if they work at all...

The cold, hard truth is that long-term results require a lifestyle commitment.  Let us help you
understand nutrition, analyze your current eating habits, create a nutrition plan with which you can
live, and develop methodologies to stay on track!

  • Do you understand the Nutrition Facts label?

  • Do you know the difference between "Reduced Fat", "Low Fat", and "Fat Free"?

  • Are you sure you understand what "Light" really means?

  • Can you identify the difference between "good" Carbs and "bad" Carbs?

  • Do you know how much protein you should eat and what foods contain the best source?

  • Do you know why it is said that breakfast is the "most important meal of the day"?

  • Do you know how to correctly judge portion size?

Most Americans cannot correctly answer these questions, which is why it is no surprise that obesity
is quickly becoming a widespread epidemic in our country.  We're here to teach you the answers to
these and many more questions relating to nutrition and help debunk the myths surrounding
mainstream dieting.

CPT Jack's MySpace BLOG comment regarding diets:

So, you've tried it all:  South Beach*, No-Carb, Weight Watchers*,
pills, hypnosis, and have even considered going "under the knife"
(but changed your mind for one reason or another).  And like
millions of other Americans, you have failed to achieve your goals
with respect to your weight.  Many of you likely realize that yo-yo
dieting and gimmicks aren't doing the trick, yet so many of you
cling to the hope that the next thing you try will be that one miracle
you've been "working so hard" to find.

It's no surprise, although perhaps it comes as one to you.  But
don't feel alienated.  You aren't alone!  With the diet industry
making billions of dollars each year, it's only natural that you are
bombarded with advertisements from companies claiming to
provide short-term solutions to your long-term problem.
Unfortunately, these short-term solutions provide (if at all) short-
term results.  The simple truth is that your fitness goals, whether
it's shedding unwanted fat or building lean body mass, depend on
a lifestyle commitment founded on two principles:  proper nutrition
and exercise.

"If dieting worked, there would be a bunch of skinny people
walking around," said obesity researcher Dr. David Katz, head of
Yale University's Prevention Research Center.  In addition,
researchers at UCLA, examining 31 weight-loss studies found
"dieting" doesn't keep the pounds off. While people can lose
weight initially, many relapse and regain the weight they shed.  The
findings confirm what many scientists have been saying all along:
Losing weight is easy. Keeping it off is another story.  That doesn't
mean it's impossible.  You just need the correct methodology:
proper nutrition and exercise.

Confusing?  You might ask me what the difference is between
dieting and proper nutrition.  I will tell you that most popular diets
focus on depriving your body of certain aspects of a balanced diet
with the intention of jump-starting into a quick loss of total body
weight.  While many of these diets are endorsed, or even created,
by doctors and leading experts most will tell you that they are not
intended for long-term commitment.

Since the vast majority of dieters return to old habits after
"completing" their diet or after reaching short-term weight loss
goals they are likely doomed to put the pounds right back from
whence they came.  Those who lose weight quickly using short-
term diet programs don't typically learn to make the overall lifestyle
changes — eating healthier foods and exercising regularly — that
are necessary to keep their weight stable.

How does one make the transition from dieting to proper nutrition?
Education is a solid foundation to making the switch.  One must
learn what the body needs and how to fuel it properly while
simultaneously balancing that information against the cravings that
send people down the path of guilty pleasures.  Instead of giving
up certain foods, most will find that changing ingredients of the
foods they like to healthier alternatives will still allow that lasagna
indulgence they look forward to.

Of course years of experience allows me to speak of this with
relative ease.  Educating yourself can be a daunting task, never
mind putting it into practice - ever try to explain the "Nutrition
Facts" label to someone else?  If you are intrigued by the notion of
making a solid commitment to your health and stop short-term
dieting, we're here to
help......
